My parents have reacted badly to my telling them that I have a boyfriend and that we're serious. Although he's from the same community as me, they have a problem with his profession and the six year age gap between us. I'm 22 and studying science, while he's around 28 and in the jewellery business. But as my family comes from a long line of engineers (from my father's side) and doctors (from my mother's side), they are unable to accept a business man into the family. My folks are looking for suitable guys for me and they say that the choice is mine; however, if I choose to be with him, then I'll be on my own. They've decided all this before even meeting him. My family is very strict and perhaps my choosing a groom is a big shock to them. I'm keeping calm, but am feeling very lost and alone. I don't know why cast/creed and profession need to come in between getting to know someone.
